Shortly after releasing a patch for the recent Internet Explorer zero-day flaw, Microsoft has updated the security advisory page to announce the May 2014 Patch Tuesday updates. On Tuesday, May 13th 2014, a total of eight updates will be released to resolve vulnerabilities; two of the eight updates are rated critical.

According to security researcher Andreas Kurtz, Apple has failed to encrypt email attachments in the following versions of iOS 7:

iOS 7.1.1 (current version)
iOS 7.1
iOS 7.0.4

After discovering the security flaw, the researcher attempted to prove the issue on an iPhone 4 running iOS 7. He found that it was simple to uncover the device’s unencrypted email attachments.

Thankfully, the update for the Internet Explorer (IE) bug went live today at 10 a.m. PDT!

If you have automatic updates turned on, the patch will be applied without you do anything.
If you haven’t turned on automatic updates, do so now.  Then go the “Check for Updates” button on your Control Panel to start the update.
